Clutch/Gearbox Replacement
This is a intricate job as on some vehicle is requires for the front subframe to be lowered or removed. Everything up top above the gearbox mountings is removed so access to the gearbox bolts and starter motor bolts is made easier. Once that is removed the gearbox oil is drained to allow the driveshafts to come out.
After the axels have come out the bolts holding the gearbox are removed, at this point the gearbox can be removed. If the job is only is for a clutch change then the gearbox bellhousing is clean and the gearbox placed to one side, after which the clutch pressure plate and friction plate are removed, some cars come with a dual mass flywheel (more expensive) other come with just a standard flywheel (cheaper), if the customer wants and dependent on the condition of the existing flywheel then it is replace other wise the flywheel is left alone. The new clutch friction plate and pressure plate are aligned to allow the gearbox to slide into place. The cutch throughout bearing is also replace which comes as standard in most clutch kits. One that is done the gearbox is placed back onto the engine and re-assembled, however if the job is a gearbox replacement or repair then parts are transferred from the old box to the new box and the box is then fitted, but if its for a repair the box is sent away where it is chemically cleaned and all bearings are replaced inside along with all oil seals. Once the box has been returned it is refitted to the vehicle and topped up with oil.
